R.B. Shiflet, 93, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012, at a Mineral Wells assisted living facility. Service: 2 p.m. Saturday at 11th Avenue Church with Pastors Charles Mays, Charles Wages, Gregg Bing, Mark Carr, Bill Hudson and Jim Roberts officiating. Interment: Woodland Park Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. He was born May 6, 1919, in Alvarado, the son of Nicholas and Pearl Spence Shiflet. He married Lorena Goyne on Sept. 1, 1944, in Fort Worth. He had lived in Mineral Wells since 1950. He was the founding pastor of 11th Avenue Church, which was founded in 1950. He preached his last sermon in March 2010. He received his master's in education from TCU. He was a teacher and administrator for the Mineral Wells schools from 1953 to 1981. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Philippines in World War II, and was there when they were liberated. Survivors: Daughter and son-in-law, Vera and Richard Stilwell of Mineral Wells; sons and daughter-in-law, Robert and Estha Shiflet of Weatherford and Randy Shiflet of North Richland Hills; grandchildren and spouses, Rick and Jane Stilwell of Bedford, Cindy Rollins and John of Mineral Wells, Rob and Melissa Shiflet of Denton, Guy and Stephanie Stilwell of Flower Mound, Tom and Carrie Shiflet of North Richland Hills, Sandra and Tom Pierson of Mineral Wells, Ryan Shiflet of Fort Worth, Russell Shiflet of Fort Worth, Nikki and Phil Bossaller of Mineral Wells and Jimmie and Jennifer Nix of Fort Worth; sister-in-law, Nina Olson of Arlington; and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
