FORMER SPRINGFIELD WOMAN PASSES. Phyllis Mae Battenfield, age 45, passed away Wednesday, June 6, 1973, at the Chandler (Ariz.) Memorial Hospital following a long illness. Mrs. Battenfield was born June 18, 1927, in Cadillac, the daughter of Lula and Leo Brainard and was united in marriage to Harold G. Battenfield January 31, 1945. They made their home on a farm in Springfield Township, Kalkaska County. In 1970, they moved to Chandler, Arizona. Surviving besides her husband, Harold are a daughter, Catherine Battenfield of Chandler; five sons, John, Gerald and Michael of Chandler, Ronald of Phoenix and Tom, stationed in the Armed Forces in Arizona; five grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Robert (Bernice) West of Cadillac; two brothers, Harold Brainard of Grand Rapids and Kay Brainard of Washington, Illinois, and many other relatives and friends. Her mother and father preceded her in death. Funeral services were held Monday, June 11, 1973, at 2 p.m. from the Smith Funeral Home in Kingsley with the Rev. Oscar Coolbaugh officiating. Burial was made in Sprngfield Township Cemetery, Kalkaska County. - The Leader and the Kalkaskian, June 14, 1973
