Obituary: Dead in St. Louis; Remains Brought Here; Many hearts were saddened here and elsewhere in the county by the unwelcome intelligence of the death on December 18th of John Thompson Watson, aged 33 years, in a hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, where he had gone from his home in Sapula, Oklahoma. He had lived there for some years while employed as fireman on the Frisco Railway. A son of Mrs. Henrietta Watson and the late Joe P. Watson, he was born near Lexington, October 4th, 1896, and he is survived by his good mother, one brother, Ray Watson and one sister, Mrs. G.W. (Excell) Goff. His father died January 12th, 1906, and a brother, Lois, died some years earlier. He publicly avowed his faith in Christ and was baptized into the fellowship of the First Baptist Church, Lexington, on June 30th, 1916, remaining a member until the end. Obedient, dutiful son, affectionate, the same painstaking diligence that characterized him in every walk of life. Amiable, cheerful and attractive, he easily made lasting friends. The sympathies of this editor are deeply felt and hereby extended to the sorrowing relatives, who are admonished to rest in the hope of a happy reunion with their departed loved one in a better world, whither he has assuredly gone. The body was brought here last Thursday by rail and taken to the residence of his uncle, Leo H. Pearson, where Rev. Fleetwood Ball, his pastor, held funeral services Friday afternoon at 1 o'clock in the presence of a large crowd despite the intensely cold day. The interment was followed in Beech River Cemetery, north of town.
