New 'Miss America" A Brunette of 22 Ruled Fairest and Most Talented of 48 Contestants by Judges
The title of Miss America went to Philadelphia for the second time in Pageant history last night when Rose Veronica Coyle, a 22-year-old brunette from suburban, Yeadon Pa., was crowned the fairest and most talented of the 48 contestants.
Immediately after the decision was made, Miss Philadelphia, in a flame-colored gown, was called to the microphones, but all she could say was "I am so thrilled I don't know what to say."
Miss Philadelphia's measurements are as follows: Height, 5 feet 6 inches; weight, 114 pounds; neck 11 1/2 inches; bust 34 inches; waist 23 1/2 inches; hips, 34 1/2 inches; thigh, 19 inches; calf, 13 inches; ankle 8 1/2 inches; upper arm 9 1/2 inches; lower arm, 8 1/2 inches, and wrist, 5 1/2 inches. Her hair is jet black, dark brown eyes and her skin is olive.
The new Miss America has motion picture ambitions. Her favorite sports are riding, golf, and swimming. She loves to dance and proved it in the talent quest. She has had some professional experience accroding to her managers, but is not employed at present.
As their names were called, the 15 finalists stepped out on the runway singly to display evening gowns. The greatest ovations were accorded Miss Philadelphia, Rose Coyle, and Miss Connecticut, Tillie Grey. The show started after a deal that made the 10,000 persons jammed in the Steel Pier ballroom impatient.
