Robert was a son of Robert & Charlotte (Armsby) Park. In the 1880 Federal census for Youngstown, Mahoning Co., OH, he was living with his parents and working as a coal miner the same as his father. Census records indicate that his father was born in Scotland and his mother in Aug. of 1820 in England. He m. Hattie Mae Hoskinson on 5 May 1882 in Perry Co., OH. In the 1900 Federal census, he was living in Murray City, Hocking Co., OH with his mother living in his home. Secondly, he m. Clara Jane "Jennie" (Trimmer) Kelley. According to a descendant, Robert was "really ambitious" and had an "entrepreneurial spirit." In 1913, he took the family to Palmyra, VA to start a sawmill. On another occasion, he took the family to St. Louis for another business venture.
His obituary appeared in the Logan Republican on Thursday, April 12, 1917:
"ROBERT PARKS DEAD
Mr. Robert Parks of Green township died in his home last week of a complication of diseases. The remains were taken to his old home in Murray City Saturday and interred by the side of his kindred dead.
Deceased was for years identified with the mining industry of Snow Fork Valley and had many friends, who will sincerely mourn his death. For some two or three years he has been engaged in the lumber business in West Virginia and only last fall returned to the farm in Green township.
The widow, who has many relatives in and around Logan, and the bereaved family have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community."
