Mrs. Wm. Abbe Rites Here Saturday
Mrs. William (Emma) Abbe, 84, long-time resident of the Elysian community, passed away Wednesday, June 21, at St. Lucas Convalescent and Geriatric Care Center in Faribault. Mrs. Abbe had continued to reside in her home here following the death of her husband September 1, 1965, until about two months ago when she suffered a broken hip and was hospitalized. She was later moved to the care center for convalescence and suffered a stroke prior to her death last Wednesday.
Funeral services were held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Elysian, Saturday afternoon, June 24, at 2:30 o'clock, with Rev. Vernon Koeper, pastor, officiating. Interment was in Cedar Hill Cemetery here.
Visitation was held at the Prosch Funeral Home in Waterville.
Pallbearers were Clarence Seha, Bud Roemhildt, Perry Simons and Loren Werth of the Elysian community; Art Bauer of Faribault; and Fred Manke, Owatonna.
Emma Louisa Kabnick was born in Janesville Township, southwest of Elysian, on May 15, 1888, a daughter of the late Fredrick William and Wilhelmina (Shelter) Kabnick. Her marriage to William G. Abbe of Meriden took place at Waseca on August 24, 1916. They farmed for 20 years on the old Roy Ash farm, southwest of Elysian. In 1942, they purchased the S. N. Smith house in Elysian and the family moved here.
Surviving are three daughters and four sons: Harvey Abbe of Duluth, Minn.; Mrs. Kenneth (Goldie) Hill of Castle Rock, Washington; Mrs. Reginald (Exilda) Welsh, Taylor Falls, Minn.; Ivory Abbe of Elysian; Giles Abbe of Waterville; Gordon Abbe of Elysian; Mrs. James (Betty Lou) McNamee of Waseca; 21 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Fern at the age of three days and Gloria, three months; her sister, Mrs. Fred (Olga) Meyers in 1965; a brother, Fred Kabnick, in 1970; also a twin brother and sister in infancy; and a grandchild in infancy.
