Retired Police Chief Wayne T. Womack age 75 of Gallatin passed away Sunday April 15, 2012 at Sumner Regional Medical Center. Funeral service will be Wednesday April 18th at 1:00 p.m. from Hendersonville First Baptist Church with Dr. Larry Gilmore officiating. He will lie in state one hour prior to the service at the church. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum at Sumner Memorial Gardens with Benny Adams, Bill Sorrells, Danny Dehyle, Don Bandy, Michael Tinker, Ron Parker, David Key and Bobby Helson serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Phillip Kelly, Jim Stalen, Steve Goforth, Todd Womack, Zach Womack, Gary Chappell, Jimmy Howell, Jerry Glenn, Danny Hurst, Caldwell Jenkins, Billy Conner, David Beasley, Ray Whitley, Joe Utley, Wayne Brooks, John Tisdale, Stan Jones, Dee Gay, Wayne Hyatt, Bob Chauncey, Ted Kelly, George Bentley, Wallace Simpson, Earl Hall, Faye Haynes, Lola Pryor, Wanda Pulliam, Tina Moore, Fran Jackson, Betty Smith, Kate Novinsky, Ethan Highers, Bob Patton, Jim Dooley, Todd Allen, Josh Womack, Jessie Anderson, Johnny Stanfill, all Gallatin Police Officers and all Sumner County Sheriff's Department. Visitation will be Monday April 16th 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. , Tuesday April 17th 11:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. He was born in Gallatin, TN on May 3, 1936. He is preceded in death by his parents John Burtis Womack and Ruby Bell Greer Womack, three brothers, Bobby, George and John, Jr. "June" Womack, one sister, Dorothy Dickey and son-in-law Edwin Anderson. He graduated from Gallatin High School in 1956. He served in the US Navy. Wayne started his career with the Gallatin Police Department on August 20, 1962, was appointed Assistant Chief on January 7, 1969, and appointed Chief on November 9, 1979 and continued in that appointment until he retired on January 23, 1995. He was Chief of Security for Johnny Cash for 32 years. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved to fish, garden and do yard work. He is survived by his wife of 51 years Mary, son David Womack and wife Patti of Gallatin, daughter Kerren Anderson of Gallatin, sister Sarah Thomas of California, four grandchildren, Jessie Anderson and wife Megan, Brittany Anderson Tinker and husband Michael, Joshua Adam Womack and wife Jamie and Stacey Womack Highers and husband Ethan, and five great grandchildren, Dylan, Lane, Jackson, Bryson and Anna Kay. The Womack family would like to express their thanks and gratitude to the Doctors and Nurses in the Critical Care Unit at Sumner Regional Medical Center for the care and compassion given to Wayne and the family.
