Confluence Airman Killed in Bomber Crash in Georgia

Cpl. Walter E. Tannehill, of Confluence, R.D. 1, aged 19 years, 11 months, and
29 days was killed on Sunday afternoon, October 29, 1944, when the B-24
Liberator bomber, in which he was flying, crashed near Chatham Field, Georgia.

Cpl. Tannehill was born near Confluence on November 3, 1924, the son of Mr.
and Mrs. Robert Tannehill. He was graduated in the class of '43 of the
Confluence High School. He enlisted in the Army Air Forces July 12, 1943, and
he trained at Greensboro, N.C.; Cleveland, Ohio; San Antonio, Texas; Scott
Field, Illinois; Denver, Colorado; Fort Meyers, Florida; Westover Field,
Massachusetts; and Chatham Field, Georgia.

Cpl. Tannehill spent his entire life before he enlisted, on a farm near
Confluence. He was a member of the Old Jersey Baptist Church near here. He is
survived by his parents, one brother, and three sisters; also by his maternal
grandparents, and six nieces and nephews.

Rev. George Meadows, minister of the Baptist Church, had charge of the
services. Interment was in the old Jersey Baptist Church cemetery under the
direction of C. B. Humbert, Confluence mortician.
