Richard F. Wood was the son of Samuel Wood and Rachel Ann Stevens. He was born between 1825 - 1828 (censuses) or in ABOUT 1826. He married first to Priscilla and had a son Richard J. Wood in 1864. She died about 1879. He married second to Elizabeth B. Price, the widow of Nelson Conner, on 14 Apr 1875. No known children together.

On the 1850 Calvert Co., MD census, I found Rachel Wood, 51; RICHD F. Wood, 22; James H. Wood, 19; Joseph Wm Wood, 17 and Robert F. Wood, 12, all MD born. They resided beside eldest known son, Samuel, Jr., age 24 and his wife Sarah and son Julius.

STATE OF MARYLAND, SCT. - CALVERT COUNTY ORPHANS COURT, June Term, 1859. -On application by petition of Richard F. Wood, Administrator of RACHEL WOOD, late of Calvert county, deceased, it is ordered that he give the notice required by law for creditors to exhibit their claims against the said deceased, and that the same be published once in each week, for the space of six successive weeks, in one of the newspapers printed in Baltimore city. WM. A. PARRAN, Reg. of Wills, Calvert county. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, That the subscriber of Calvert county, has obtained from the Orphans' Court of Calvert county, in Maryland, letters of administration on the personal estate of RACHEL WOOD, late of Calvert county, deceased. All persons having claims against the said deceased are hereby warned to exhibit the same, with the vouchers thereof, to the subscriber, at or before the 14th day of November, next, they may otherwise, by law, be excluded from all benefits of the said estate. Given under my hand this 14th day of June 1859. RICHARD F. WOOD, Administrator. See photo of the 14 June 1859 issue of the Daily Exchange (Baltimore), page 4.

On the 1860 Sunderlandville P.O., Calvert Co., MD census, I found farmer and planter RICHARD Wood, 35, with $6K in real estate; Priscilla Wood, 22; laborers: (his brother) Robert Wood, 22; Walter Smothers, 18 and John Anderson, 40, all MD born. Since Richard owned real estate in 1860, I assume he inherited it from his father, Samuel, Sr., as the eldest surviving son inherited ancestral land.

On the 1870 Calvert Co., MD census, I found farmer RICHARD F Wood, 42; Priscilla Wood, 30 and Richard J Wood, 6, plus 2 farm workers, all VA born. Richard could not read or write.

On the 1880 Calvert Co., MD census, I found farmer RICHARD Wood, 54; (second) wife Elizabeth Wood, 56 and son (with his first wife Priscilla) and farm worker, Richard J Wood, 15, plus a cook and laborer, all MD born. Richard died in 1882

Richard F. Wood's probate was in Calvert Co., #1022SUPP, opened 10 Apr 1883 and closed 8 Apr 1884. His widow, Elizabeth B Wood and Jas S Fowler were Richard's administrators. The first bond was dated 1882, no month or day, but filed in 10 Apr 1883. The Warrant to Estimate his property was filed 9 Oct 1883. John A Cox & Wm Marquess appraised it. It included a house in tolerable good order, 1 barn & 1 old granary - both very much out of repair, with about 10 acres of wood land, and about 78 acres arable land. It was valued at $125.00, by John A Cox and Wm Marquess.

The First Accounting was filed 8 Apr 1884 in VCC1, p 110, included: tobacco raised in 1882, 3 mares and a colt, a yoke of oxen as property of Johnson Wood (who I suspect is his son Richard J.), $5.00 cash paid the Calvert Journal (obit) but the date is unknown and payment of his late taxes for 1778 to 1881. A List of Sales filed 22 Jan 1884 in VCC1 (that's Virgil C Cox, Hardesty cousin), p 95 includes items sold valuation and not who they were sold to.

The last papers were filed in 22 Jul 1884. His land was sold by Trustee Jos A Wilson in Aug 1884. His brother Robert purchased 95 acres of it, adjoining Robert's land and Francis Stevens.

He died in 1882 due to the Calvert Co. Bond (above). The first accounting included (undated) $5.00 to the Calvert Journal, probably for his obit.
