Aloysius W. "Al" Leikam, 67, died March 16, 1998,at his home. He was born Oct. 15, 1930, in Ellis County, near Catherine, the son of Alois and Bertha Grabbe Leikam. He was in oil production and was co-owner of D.H. & L. Oil Operations prior to his retirement. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and the American Legion, both at Hays. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
On Sept. 26, 1950, he married Thelma Obley. She died in 1970. On June 14, 1980, he married Ellen Buck. She survives. Other survivors include: two stepsons, Ernie Miles, Wichita, and Jim Kraft, Claflin; two stepdaughters, Glenda Cooper, Overland Park, and Georgellen McConnell, Hays; a sister, Bertha Kuhn, Great Bend; and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Herman Leikam.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays, with Father Donald Zimmerman presiding. Friends may call from 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today and 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. Thursday at Brock's North Hill Chapel, Hays. There will be a parish vigil service at 7 p.m. today at the funeral chapel, and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial with military honors conducted by the Hays American Legion will be in Mt. Allen Cemetery, Hays.
Memorials may be sent to the American Heart Association in care of the funeral chapel.
