Karen B. Marchant, 69, formerly of Buena Vista, died Friday, Nov. 9,2012, at Hock Pavilion in Durham, N.C.

Marchant was a member of the Buena Vista Planning Commission for 12 years, stepping down earlier this year when she and her hus­band, Dennis Marchant, moved to Fuquay-Varina, N.C. She was a member ,of Christ Episcopal Church in Buena Vista and the service sorority, Xi Beta Kappa chap­ter of Beta Sigma Phi.

She was born July 31, 1943, in Washington, D.C., a daughter of the late Abraham "Moe" Baiarsky and Josephine "Jo" Delaney Ba­iarsky. She lived in Arlington prior to her marriage on April 17,1965.

She graduated from Madi­son College in 1965 with a bachelor of science degree in elementary education. While in college, she was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta fraternity for women. She worked as a teacher before leaving the profession to raise a family.

She later returned to work as a teaching assistant at Run­ning Brook, Dasher Greene and Waverly elementary schools in Howard County, Md. After retiring, the Marchants moved to Buena Vista.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Scott Marchant of Fayetteville, N.C.; a daughter, Kristine Marchant of Gamer, N.C.; and three grandchildren.

The funeral liturgy was conducted Monday, Nov. 12, at Trinity Episcopal Church in Fuquay- Varina by the Rev. Roxane Gwyn. Burial fol­lowed in Wake Chapel Ceme­tery.
