Karen B. Marchant, 69, formerly of Buena Vista, died Friday, Nov. 9,2012, at Hock Pavilion in Durham, N.C.
Marchant was a member of the Buena Vista Planning Commission for 12 years, stepping down earlier this year when she and her husband, Dennis Marchant, moved to Fuquay-Varina, N.C. She was a member ,of Christ Episcopal Church in Buena Vista and the service sorority, Xi Beta Kappa chapter of Beta Sigma Phi.
She was born July 31, 1943, in Washington, D.C., a daughter of the late Abraham "Moe" Baiarsky and Josephine "Jo" Delaney Baiarsky. She lived in Arlington prior to her marriage on April 17,1965.
She graduated from Madison College in 1965 with a bachelor of science degree in elementary education. While in college, she was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta fraternity for women. She worked as a teacher before leaving the profession to raise a family.
She later returned to work as a teaching assistant at Running Brook, Dasher Greene and Waverly elementary schools in Howard County, Md. After retiring, the Marchants moved to Buena Vista.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Scott Marchant of Fayetteville, N.C.; a daughter, Kristine Marchant of Gamer, N.C.; and three grandchildren.
The funeral liturgy was conducted Monday, Nov. 12, at Trinity Episcopal Church in Fuquay- Varina by the Rev. Roxane Gwyn. Burial followed in Wake Chapel Cemetery.
