Funeral services for Mr. Henry Ford Graben, age 85 of Lineville, AL were held Sunday, July 22, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville with Rev. David Holcombe officiating. Burial followed in Clay County Memory Gardens.
Mr. Graben passed away Friday, July 20, 2012 at Clay County Nursing Home. A native and life-long resident of Clay County, he was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, serving as a German-speaking interpreter and guard. At the war's end, Mr. Graben helped locate and repatriate German soldiers who did not yet know that the war was over. Following his honorable discharge, he worked for the Clay County Commission as a mechanic and dragline operator, then as a mechanic for C.C. Ozier Farms, a cattle and poultry production operation located in Bowdon, Georgia. Mr. Graben also worked for Southwire Corporation in Carrollton as a truck and forklift mechanic. In 1992, he operated his farm in Clay County on a full-time basis, then retired in the year 2000. Mr. Graben was also a member of Barfield Baptist Church.
He is survived by five daughters: Patricia Taylor Musick (Earl) of Carrollton, GA, Barbara Bridwell (Willie) of Bowdon, GA, Gail Amason (William) of Wedowee, Gladys Jane McClain (Darrell) of Franklin, GA, and Cynthia Roberts (Tim) of Bremen, GA; three sisters: Carolyn Smith of Lineville, Helen Norred of Ashland and Betty Jean Pool of Summerville, GA; one brother, Jack Graben of Lineville; a dear friend, Geneva McInnish of Lineville, 15 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Mr. Graben was preceded in death by his parents: John J. Graben and Edith Britt Graben; his first wife of 48 years, Doris McVey Graben and his second wife, Una Graben; one daughter, Keitha Spratlin; three sisters: Marie Harris, Evelyn Bailey and Jeanette Steen; two brothers: Billy Joe Graben and Bobby Graben.
Pallbearers were Paul Graben, Jason Meadows, Jaime Meadows, Phillip Graben, Michael McClain, Anthony Taylor, Dan Taylor, Timothy Spratlin, Christopher Brown and Garrett Thomas.
Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville in charge of arrangements.
