SAIZ, Pedro Galvan (Pete) was born in Villanueva, NM, April 16, 1921, and passed away December 11, 2011, in Lancaster, CA, at the age of 90. Pedro a World War II Veteran, was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1945 after having served in France as a hospital corpsman. In 1946, he married Molly Bustamante in a small Catholic church where he had been an altar boy as a youth. Pete and Molly then moved to Lancaster where he worked on a Westside poultry ranch for 12 years. Pedro worked at AV Hospital for a few years and then Antelope Valley College until 1990 when he retired after 25 years of dedicated service. Molly preceded Pete into Heaven in January of 1994. They are now happily reunited. Pedro enjoyed spending time with his family. He particularly relished the time he spent with his grandkids and great-grandkids. They in turn truly adored and loved their 'Grandpa' or 'Poppis Daddy' as he was called. Pete enjoyed most sports on TV, particularly boxing. As a young man he appeared on more than a few local 'fight cards' and even won a few matches. Pete was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church for 65 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for many years. He enjoyed his work with the Legion of Mary and Perpetual Adoration groups. Until recently, Pedro would visit church members in various convalescent homes throughout Lancaster to talk and pray with them. In addition to his two sons Pete Jr., (Sue), and Phillip, Pedro is survived by his four grandchildren, Tim, Katie, Nathan, and Jessica, and five great-grandchildren. He was the last surviving sibling of 8. Over the past 10 years, he visited New Mexico numerous times. Many nieces and nephews have enjoyed the time spent with their 'Tio'. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Sierra Medical Group for their professionalism and also to Sung Yang M.D. of AV Nephrology Group for the kind and caring manner in which he cared for Pedro these past few years. Viewing will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, December 14, 2011 with a Rosary at 7 p.m. at Mumaw Funeral Home in Lancaster. Funeral Mass will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 15, 2011, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lancaster. Internment to follow at Good Shepard Catholic Cemetery in West Lancaster.
