He was the son of Lewis and Leona (Beckman) Gast. On Jul 21, 1945, in St. Henry, he married Geraldine Feldhake, who survives in St. Henry.
Also surviving are two sons: Bo (Jane), St. Henry, and Steve (Lucy), Dove Canyon, CA; four daughters: Elaine (Gary) Broering, St. Henry, Peggy (Richard) Harkins, Marion, Kathy (Jim) Broering, Dublin, and Dorothy (Duncan) Abernathy, Richmond, VA; a brother, John (Marty), North Ft. Myers, FL; a sister, Jean (Jack) Bergman, St. Henry; three sisters-in-law: Bea Gast and Joan (Mark) Wenning, both St. Henry, and Margaret Mestemaker, St. Marys; and fifteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a grandson, Joel Broering; two brothers linked below; and a brother-in-law, Robert Mestemaker.
He was a veteran of the US Army Air Corps and a POW in Germany during WWII. He was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church; St. Gasper Del Bufalo 4th degree Knights of Columbus, Minster; St. Henry Knights of Columbus; Mercer County Elks Club; St. Henry American Legion; and a former member of the St. Henry School Board and the church choir. He was past President and Agricultural Manager for the Beckman & Gast Company, St. Henry, and was past president of the Ohio Food Processers Association. He received the H.D. Brown Person-of-the-Year Award from the Ohio Food Processers.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Henry Catholic Church, with Rev. Tom Hemm officiating.
