Bertha Adella Hyser was born in April, 1886, in Carroll County, Maryland, the daughter of Benjamin J. and Anna C. Barnhart Hyser. On January 1, 1903, she married Charles Franklin Valentine, son of John William and Sarah Alice Ecker Valentine. They were the parents of 4 children: Nellie Mary, Nadine Burnette, Charles William and Betty Jane Valentine. Bertha passed away on May 26, 1955, in Hanover, York County, Pennsylvania, and was buried in Rest Haven Cemetery there.

"Mrs. Bertha Adella Valentine, 69, wife of Charles L. Valentine, died Thursday at 3 p.m. at her home in Hanover. She was a member of Grace Reformed Church. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are: four children, Charles William Valentine, Jacksonville, Florida; Mrs. Samuel Bowman, Hanover Route 5; Mrs. Paul S. Orndorff, and Mrs. Richard Bevenour, Hanover; seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild and two sisters, Mrs. Mable Harner, Littlestown Route 2, and Mrs. Ruth Harman, Union Bridge."
