Mike Everhart was born in Pond Creek, Oklahoma 1946, the first child of Jack and Betty Everhart. He attended Wichita State University 1964 to 1969, majoring in biology and graduating in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science degree and his ROTC commission in the U.S. Army. He entered the Army upon graduation in March, 1969, and served with the First Cavalry Division in Vietnam in 1970. Upon completion of his military service obligation, he was accepted for Graduate School at W.S.U. and completed his Masters degree (environmental biology emphasis) in 1973. Following graduation, he worked for the Wichita Sedgwick County Department of Community Health for 12 years, advancing to the position of Environmental Health Director, before being hired by The Boeing Company. In September, 2002, after 17 years, he retired from The Boeing Company, and is currently an adjunct curator of paleontology at the Sternberg Museum in Hays, Kansas. He and his wife, Pam, have four grown children, and nine grandchildren.
