Bio

I am a retired high school teacher and a history buff. I used to live a few blocks from Greenwood, Rockford's oldest and most historic cemetery. I started carrying a camera with me wherever I went so that I can add records to findagrave~ prominent local people, war veterans, interesting headstones, and of course, my own friends and family.

I remember when I was a kid, my grandmother, Eva Powell Fuhr, would index cemeteries and research genealogy. She kept very meticulous records, on handwritten cards and notebooks. She wrote two family histories on an electric typewriter. She corresponded with people all over the world, and truly worked to get her information (This was back in the days before the internet). Grandma's research was her life's work and she was a proud DAR member. Grandma passed on in 1985, but she left behind a great deal of material. So whatever research I do now, I shall dedicate to her memory.

If I have listed someone from your own family, and you want to list it yourself, or you want to add something to their listing, just email me and we'll work it out. I don't mean to offend anybody. The memorials are made as a tribute to the deceased, all of whom were loved and who have a story to tell.
