Flowers left for Bobby Driscoll
And so Mother Earth has completed yet another journey around the sun, and the third day of March has arrived once more; the date when you, Bob, came upon the scene. We both were only boys in 1949 when you first captured my attention, and in my mind then you personified the little brother I never got to know. I vividly recall vowing then that somehow I'd find a way to meet you later on when we were older. It might have happened, too, had things turned out differently for us both.My admiration and respect for you has endured throughout the years. Now, on this, the seventy-sixth anniversary of your birth, I'd like you to know that for me your star still shines brilliantly, dimmed not in the slightest by the passage of time."When you come on the screen up yonder at the big movie show in the sky" is the closing line of a long-forgotten Bing Crosby tune that I recall from the long ago. You were a master of your craft, and I know in my heart of hearts that God did not endow you with the great gift you possessed to use solely during your ephemeral stay among us. No, I like to think He had a greater purpose in mind. My fervent hope is that in the bye and bye I'll be there in the audience for your celestial screenings.Ever your faithful fan,Jim Foster
