It appears to have been reprinted from the Stark County (Ill) Sentinel. Due to its length, only more relevant parts are transcribed.
Rev. J. J. Fleharty was born at Jacksonville, Illinois, February 5, 1835. His childhood and youth were spent in Mercer county. When but a mere lad he would stand up in the presence of his brothers, five in number, and address them as though he were preaching to them.....
He was converted at the age of 16 or 17 years and united with the M. E. Church. Soon after this he attended an excellent school at Henderson, Illinois....
In the fall of 1858 he entered the itinerate ministry of the M. E. Church and joined the Central Illinois Conference and was appointed to Wyoming charge, afterward service on French Creek, Wethersfield and Port Byron.
On December 4, 1801 he was married to Miss Anna Brace, of Elmira, Illinois.
From Port Byron he moved to Moline..then appointed to what was then known as Berlin charge..His only child, Clara Viola, was born while serving this charge.
...returned to Wyoming...removed to Osceola, Nebraska...during the years of his ministerial labor, having prosecuted his studies till the degrees of A.M. and Ph.B. were merited and worthily bestowed upon him by the Illinois Wesleyan University...moved to Fullerton....took cold...continuing to fail sought restoration in Florida....About 2 weeks before his death, which took place at Tampa, Florida May 2d, about 11 o'clock p.m., paralysis set in and he was an extreme sufferer....
...May 10th, his remains, attended by his brother Stephen and the bereaved wife and daughter Clara, arrived at Toulon, and in the afternoon of the same day were interred in the Elmira cemetery....

Rev. J. J. Fleharty died on Friday, May 2nd, in the 51st year of his age, at Tampa, Florida, where he with his family had gone on account of his health.
Deceased was well known in this community as the founder and President of the Nebraska Wesleyan University here, and the story of his heroic struggles, indomitable energy, patient toil and unyielding faith in the last great object of his life - the establishment of the above named institution on a permanent basis, is familiar, to all who have known him here. There are but few men whom we have known in whose integrity of character, honesty of purpose and Christian spirit toward men we have had so much confidence as in those of president Fleharty.
His remains have been taken to Elmira, Illinois where he formerly resided, and where his wife with her daughter will make their future home, her relatives residing there.
Stephen C. Fleharty, of Florida, a brother of the deceased, is accompanying the bereaved wife and daughter with the remains of their husband and father in their sad journey to Illinois, and it is expected that he will be here and that either he or another will, in the near future contribute for these columns something to the memory of a brother and noble worker in the cause of education and religion.
