Robert Donald Dollase was born July 16, 1922 to William and Martha Tripke Dollase in Watertown, Wis. He attended Wisconsin Synod Lutheran Elementary School and graduated from Watertown High School. As young man he played hockey both in high school and for a regional team
At the age of nineteen, he left to serve his country in WW II as a member of the US Army where he was first trained to serve in an artillery battalion and then participated in a training program to become a pilot in the Army Aircorp. When the latter program was canceled, he was transferred to the Quartermaster Corp in the Pacific Theater where he was in Graves Registry. His citations and honors included Bronze Stars for his service in the Pacific and American Theatres as well as a good conduct medal. After the war, he served as part of the occupational forces in Korea.
When he returned to the United States, Bob attended the University of Wisconsin graduating in 1950 with degrees in Engineering and Geology. During his college days, he developed a passion for Barbershop Harmony singing and performed in various semi-professional groups throughout his life.
Also while at school, he met and fell in love with Mary Louise Huffman. They married in 1950. By the time of his death they had been married 55 years. Bob and Mary had three children, Bette Jane born in 1953, David born in 1955, and Catharine born in 1965.
After graduating college, Bob turned to the field of business. He worked for Wisconsin Gas Co., JJ Fitzpatrick Wholesale Lumber, The Barber-Coleman Co., The Overhead Door Co., The Toidey Co., and his own company, Baby Bathinette.
Bob came to Frankfort, Ky in 1969 to work with The Frank F. Taylor Co. (Taylor Tot) where he served as the Vice President. He remained a resident of Frankfort for the rest of his life.
As a community member, he was an active participant in the First Presbyterian Church as both a Deacon and an Elder. He served on the Board of Frankfort Habilitation and was a member of Rotary. He was honored with the titles of both a Kentucky Colonel and Admiral.
An avid golfer, he was a member of the Kentucky and Central Kentucky Senior Men's Golf Associations and the Frankfort Country Club. He also was instrumental in organizing tournaments to benefit the Hospice of the Bluegrass.
Bob passed away on Thursday, October 20 at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington due to complications following a stroke. He is survived by his wife and three children, his grandchildren (James and Brian Booth, Emma and Daniel Dollase), his sister Carol Dollase Schultz, and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his Mother and Father, five sisters (Hazel Dollase, Arleen Dollase Tiefel, Marie Dollase Buccheit, Jean Dollase Wood, and Shirley Dollase Tessman), one brother (William), and a granddaughter, Elizabeth Jane Dollase
