In a 1944 letter to his parents the then 19-yr-old Armin Dürholt writes about the horror of combat. He describes the day to day activities at the front and as a prisoner of war: " Eight days without food, almost no sleep. Only air raids and shredded bodies." His writings reveal that he falls more and more into a depression and that he appears to be broken by the cruelty of war. In his correspondence he appeals to future generations to keep peace: "Those of you, who are allowed to live, listen to me in the loud noise of this world." - During an attack on Christmas eve of that year he was killed.
