Happy Belated Birthday, Mr. Mathews. You were, are, and will always represent everything which is right with the national pastime. Thank you for the countless memories and moments, both on and off the field, which you have and continue to provide for myself and generations of fans, young and old. You are and will remain one of the most talented, accomplished, and underrated players of this or any era. It would have been the greatest honor to have met and worked with you. May God continue to bless and watch over you and those you love then, now, and always.RIP

Mr. Mathews: My first sports hero. I remember being at county stadium and when the batters were announced asking my dad "Is that him?!!" I finally got a yes and just cheered with all the energy I could.I still smile when I think of you. You also left great father/daughter memories.I was very saddened when I heard you were ill...and even more so when I heard you died.I am now thankful to have have seen you play and manage with class and style that many sports people today could learn from Thanks for everything.God Bless.

You were my boyhood idol...Many times growing up we would see you at County Stadium or Wrigley Field...After the games, my Dad would talk with you since I was shy and in awe but you always gave me an autograph (I still have them)...My brother's idol was Hammerin Hank...I remember one time in particular at Wrigley when my Dad was talking with you after the game. You talked with him so long that the bus was starting to leave when some other players yelled for you...you said so long and took off running and jumped on the bus while it was moving. Thanks for always being nice to me and my family and thanks for the great memories.RIP
