Donald, 78, of Leslie died Thursday at home. He was surrounded by his loving family when he went to be with the Lord after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Don was a life-long resident of Leslie, Michigan, a Veteran of the Korean War, member of the Leslie Fire Department since 1974, former Mayor of Leslie, past American Legion Post 491 Commander, past Teamster Local 580 steward, Grand Chef du Michigan of the 40/8, and member of the Masonic Lodge.

Donald retired from Perfection Bakeries after 30 years. Donald enjoyed being with his family, hunting, gardening, fishing, fixing small engines for family, friends and the community, and just tinkering in the garage.

Donald leaves behind his wonderful and loving dancing partner, Mary Haynes, to whom he was married 28 years; 9 children, Donald Haynes, Beverly Haynes-Love, Ronald Haynes, Evelyn (Don) Budd, Debra Haynes, Dorothy (Bud) Fifield, Pennie Haynes, and Lonnie (Carrie) Haynes; 4 step-children, Lorri (David) Wheeler, Michael (Beverly) Rosier, Jeffrey Rosier, and Thomas Rosier; brother, Robert (Kay) Haynes and sisters, Betty Munn, Carolyn (Bob) Kampf and Rosalie Williams, 25 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren with one on the way, many nieces, nephews, and special friends.

Donald is preceded in death by his parents, Donald F. and Esther Haynes, wife, Veverlon Haynes, and daughter, Barbara Haynes.

Desired memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers in Donald�s honor to the Leslie Firemen�s Association or Hospice of Lansing.

Funeral service was Monday, Feb. 14, 2011 at J.C. Adams Funeral Home, Leslie.
