Mrs. William Caddell Riddle (Dora Alice Cheek) told me that Artemus was wounded in the leg in the Battle of Gettysburg and almost bled to death.
Mrs. Riddle referred to Artemus as "Tim". She also told me that his name was pronounced "ar Teem us" (Long 'e'). Her husband, William Caddell Riddle, was the grandson of Artemus S. Caddell.
Photo: Brothers Cornelius and Artemus Caddell. This picture was taken in front of the home of Artemus's son-in-law, Robert Lee Riddell and his wife, Mary Ann Caddell Riddle. Mrs. Dora Riddle, wife of Artemus's grandson William Caddell Riddle, and her family graciously allowed copies of their family pictures to be made.
