J.P. Offield died at the home of his son, A.A. Offield, in Rockdale at 3 o'clock Tuesday morning, December 27th, after an illness from cancer of the stomach extending over a period of several months. Mr. Offield and family have been residing on the Gabriel for the past year or more, but was taken by his son to his home in Rockdale a few weeks ago that he might be closer to medical attention and he could better look after his wants. Deceased was a native Texan and was nearly seventy years of age. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Mary Ann Offield, and six children, J.F., A.A., Tommie, Morgan and Johnnie Offield and Mrs. Tisha Hobbs, of near Elgin, besides a number of other relatives and wide a acquaintances of friends to mourn his loss. Deceased was a member of the Christian church and had resided in this section of Milam and the northern portion of Lee county for the past thirty-five years. His remains were interred in the Locklin Cemetery on the Gabriel, Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock in the presence of a large concourse of relatives and friends.
