On April 25, 1980 an attempt was made to rescue American's being held hostage in Iran. The mission had to be called off, but 8 men lost their lives that day.

All 8 servicemen whose lives were lost in the aborted rescue attempt are honored with a memorial located at Arlington National Cemetery.

Maj Lewis is also buried at Arlington National Cemetery. He is buried in a common grave with two others. They share an Air Force monument headstone.
