Actor. Born Frederick Arthur Baker, he is best known as the crotchety-yet-lovable Ernest Grainger, head of the Men's Department, in the highly-successful BBC comedy, "Are You Being Served?" He was also a regular guest on such British television shows as "Upstairs, Downstairs", "Dad's Army", "Z-Cars", "The Persuaders!", and "Jason King." Brough retired from acting in 1978, shortly after the death of his wife, Elizabeth Addyman, to whom he had been married more than 50 years. He passed away only seven weeks later.
