Grandpa was the son of John Lanigan and Mary Burns who were both born in Ireland. I believe they first lived in Canada and then to New York where grandpa's sister Sarah was born in 1857. His dad helped build the first railroad into Iowa. They lived in Lockridge; Jefferson County Iowa until abt. June of 1870 when they moved to Ottumwa. Grandpa died at the family home at 928 Pershing Avenue; Ottumwa. My Grandpa always wore a suit! I never saw him dressed any other way.
