Wilma Mahanay, 84, of Alvarado passed into the Lord's arms Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012. Service: 1 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Alvarado. Interment: Glenwood Cemetery in Alvarado. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Clayton Kay-Vaughan Funeral Home in Alvarado.

Wilma Leach Mahanay was born in Erick, Okla., to Charles Mathis Leach and Agnes Gertrude Mauzey on July 12, 1927. She was the next youngest of 10 children. The family settled in Fort Worth in the early 1940s. She graduated from Polytechnic High School in 1944 and then followed in the footsteps of her siblings and attended college. She went to TWC in Fort Worth where the family was living at the time. A blind date resulted in her finding the love of her life, Alvah Mahanay. They were married Oct. 15, 1948, in Fort Worth and were blessed with four children. In 1960, a decision was made to move the family to Alvarado, back to the Mahanay roots. Wilma once told her daughter that all she ever wanted to do was be a mother and a grandmother and accomplished this wish.

In the early 1970s, she worked for several years beside her husband at their family-owned dairy while also selling Avon to her many loyal customers in the rural area. The family moved their church membership to First United Methodist Church of Alvarado in 1960. Wilma was a loyal member for 50-plus years and enjoyed working with Sunday school and singing in the choir. She was an active member of United Methodist Women, the Get and Goes and the Clio Club of Alvarado. She was preceded in death by her husband, A.B. Mahanay Jr.; her parents; and seven brothers and sisters.

Survivors: Daughters, Beverly Short and husband, Jim, of Alvarado, Jan Huffman and husband, Paul, of Burleson and Tina Eder of Mineral Wells; son, Brandle Mahanay and wife, Ellen, of Joshua; grandchildren, Jason Woolard, Lacey Eder, Russ McGallian, Charlotte Pyonk, Michael Huffman and Paula Youngblood; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

There's magic in a Mother's touch,
And sunshine in her smile.
There's love in everything she does
To make our lives worthwhile.
We can find both hope and courage
Just by looking in her eyes.
Her laughter is a source of joy,
Her works are warm and wise.
There is a kindness and compassion
To be found in her embrace,
And we see the light of heaven
Shining from a Mother's face.

*•.¸¸♥♥¸.•*¨*♥♥¨*•.¸¸♥♥¸.•*¨*•♥♥•*
I thought of you with love today
but that is nothing new
I thought about you yesterday
and days before that too,

I think of you in silence
I often speak your name
All I have are memories
and your picture in a frame.

Your memory is my keepsake
with which I'll never part
God has you in His keeping
I have you in my heart.
*•.¸¸♥♥¸.•*¨*♥♥¨*•.¸¸♥♥¸.•*¨*•♥♥•*

The moment that you left me, my heart was split in two; one side was filled with memories; the other side died with you. I often lay awake at night when the world is fast asleep; and take a walk down memory lane with tears upon my cheek. Remembering you is easy, I do it every day; but missing you is a heartache that never goes away. I hold you tightly within my heart and there you will remain; you see life has gone on without you, but will never be the same.

Mother
You can only have one mother, patient kind and true;
No other friend in all the world, will be the same to you,
When other friends forsake you, to mother you will return,
For all her loving kindness, she asks nothing in return.

As we look upon her picture, sweet memories we recall,
Of a face so full of sunshine, and a smile for one and all.
Sweet Jesus, take this message to our dear mother up above,
Tell her how we miss her, and give her all our love.

Gone from my Sight
by Henry Van Dyke

I am standing upon the seashore. A ship, at my side,
spreads her white sails to the moving breeze and starts
for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength.
I stand and watch her until, at length, she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.
Then, someone at my side says, "There, she is gone."
Gone where?
