She was married twice; her first husband being Albert Choate, her second husband a prominent Choctaw of Sugar Loaf County, Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory, named Polk McAlvain.
Louisa was the mother of John Walter, Charles, William Richard, Thomas Jay, Florence Alice, David Warren, Martha, Audie Carl, Lulabelle, and Jewel McAlvain in addition to helping raise Polk's three sons by Mary Choate; Stonewall Jackson, Robert Lee and Louis Riley McAlvain.
She was of the Baptist Faith.
