John "Jack" Hunter Painter Sr., 88, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, in Titusville, Fla.

Jack was born Dec. 2, 1924, in Dover, N.J., to Chauncey DePue "C.D." Painter and Elizabeth Ann Hermann. He grew up in Dover, N.J., and attended Newark College of Engineering. After graduating, he went to work for General Electric, where he met Ruby Ann Erwin. They were married on Oct. 5, 1952, and had four children.They moved their family to the midwest town of Quincy, Illinois in the early seventies. That is where their three sons met their future spouses. Jack and Ruby stayed in Quincy until Jack took early retirement and they sold the house on 28th street and moved to Florida to be near Jack's parents and two of their four children in 1986. They opened their home to both of his parents and to sons and daughters as they moved about Florida. They lived in Gainesville and Orlando before they finally settled in Titusville for twenty years.

Jack was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Ruby Ann Erwin, on Dec. 4, 2011.

Graveside funeral services will be held at Crestwood Memorial in Gadsden, Ala.

John "Jack" Hunter Painter, Sr., 88, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013 at Titusville, FL. He passed quietly in his sleep. Jack was born Dec. 2, 1924 in Dover, NJ to Chauncey DePue (C.D.) Painter and Elizabeth Ann Hermann. He grew up in Dover, NJ and attended Newark College of Engineering. After graduating he went to work for General Electric where he met Ruby Ann Erwin. They were married on Oct. 5, 1952 and had four children.

Jack was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Ruby Ann Erwin, on Dec. 4, 2011. He is survived by their four children John H. Painter, Jr., James E. Painter, Jeffrey L. Painter and Mary Beth Painter Doss; ten grand children and seven great grand children. Grave side funeral services will be held at Crestwood Memorial in Gadsden, AL and is open to all family and friends

Pop and Mommo were the most wonderful people. So caring and giving and they loved their grandchildren with all their hearts. What a blessing to have such loving people in this world who touched the lives of so many others with kindness and thoughtfulness
