*Eulogy ~ by, Andy Ewing ~

First of all, I want to thank everyone for joining us to celebrate my mom's life. For those who do not know, I am Andy Ewing, son of Cassandra (Sandy).

I would like to begin by saying that this should not be a time of sorrow. My mom did not shed a tear throughout her final days. She had total confidence that she was going home to be with our Father. When my mom discovered that she was sick, I was lying with her in the hospital and sobbing. As she was holding me she looked down and asked me what was wrong. I giggled a little and all I could manage to say was, 'MOM?!' This is the simplest way I can describe my mom's personality. I could steal her last drink of water and her glass would still be half full.

Cassandra Louise Dawson was born on July 31, 1953 in San Diego, California. She was the oldest of four siblings. She graduated from Madison High School and Kelsey Jennings Business College. She married my dad in 1988. Most importantly, she became the daughter of Christ on January 23rd, 1991. She did not say goodbye but rather, "See you later" to her husband Bob, her sisters Roni and Meeka, her brother Jim and his wife Kim, her nephew Jake, her niece Rebecca, her daughter, Nikki and sons James and Dennis.

We lost a beautiful daugther, sister, wife, mother, aunt, and someday grandma. But, Heaven gained a tremendous angel. Her fingerprint on our lives will determine how we will carry on throughout each day. Her strength and courage will never be forgotten and her love for life will help me to wake up each morning with a smile. Though there will be days of celebration and days of sorrow, she will be by my side, comforting me with her eternal love. Every time I close my eyes, I do not see my mom in her last days. I see her as she truly was on the inside, and that was a bubbly, charismatic and loving person who was always smiling and humming one of her favorite Beatles' songs.

My mom loved life and all that it had to offer. One of her favorite things to do was stroll the beach and collect seashells. I have always admired my mom's intelligence. She was always reading, solving crossword puzzles and winning Jeopardy from the couch. I would often have to be a referee between my mom and dad as they battled to answer more questions and solve more puzzles on Wheel of Fortune. My mom truly adored my dad and 25 years of marriage is a testament to that. My dad truly was the love of her life and her best friend. The toughest of times in their marriage pale in comparison to their abounding love for each other. They have shown me what it truly means to love someone more than yourself.

I will always cherish the nights my mom would come home from a nine-hour workday to prepared dinner with a smile. She never once complained. Her love for us trumped her fatigue from life. She would always insist that I made the best mashed potatoes and always asked me to prepare them, but I will miss her tacos most of all. Her heart for my dad and I was the biggest blessing of all. Her support for us stemmed from her deep love.

Every time I wore new clothes and thought I was cool, my mom would say I looked great. I never heard her say that she did not like something I was wearing. I began to realize that I could wear a tutu and she would adore it. I came to the conclusion that she was looking past what I was wearing and only saw her son. Wardrobe aside, my mom would also attend every sport I participated in. From soccer to football to track, my mom was always there to cheer me on. She was my number one fan out of love and a sports fan by force.

My oldest and fondest memories with my mom go back to when I was 4 years old. She would always sit with me in the rocking chair and rub my head as she sang, "You Are My Sunshine." Now she will forever be sunshine and make me happy when skies are grey. You are my perfect angel and my number one fan mommy. I love you . . . Andy Ewing ~
