Robert Hill (32956873)

Suggested edit: I was working on my 3ed Great Grandmother's (Mary Ann (Hill) Ralston) genealogy this week. I found a book online with the family bible for them listed. Robert I. (Irwin) Hill is her brother. Born May 19, 1828 d. Aug. 30, 1890. Married Clarisa Harbin in Dec. 2. 1852. Only other mention of him is he may have died in Orizala (?) Mississippi.
Their parents are Robert Hill and Nancy Patton. I am currently trying to link up all of Nancy and Robert's children to them on Find a grave.

From census records, Robert I Hill was born 1828-1830 in Tennessee. He died between the 1880 and 1900 census.

His first wife's name was Clarisa, b 1835 in Georgia; their children were Nathaniel, b 1855, Mary b 1858 and Tippah, female b 1859. On the 1860 census Tippah was called Lula.

His second wife was Ruth Jane Cox, born 1837 in Georgia. They were married Feb 18, 1863 in Tippah County MS. Their children were Nannie, Robert, and Victor.

Robert I Hill was a captain in Co B 23rd Miss Inf CSA.

The following information came from Widow's of Soldiers for Pension which was filed in McLennan County, Texas on Sep 10, 1914.

His date of marriage to Ruth Jane Cox and his date of death were included on the application. On the application, his widow made several remarks. She had lived in the State of Texas since 1890. She said her husband served in the military about 3 years; he enlisted in 1861 and served two years. In 1863, he had a furlough on account of his health, when he improved a little he went back and stayed nearly a year. He served in Company B, 23 Miss Reg. He was in the infantry, was a captain but was not commissioned, and was not detailed for special service under the law of conscription.

McLennan County District Judge at this time was George N Denton. B O Smithson and J H Blackwell signed as personally knowing Mrs. Ruth Jane Hill.
