Robert was born in Delware County, Muncie, Indiana,prior to the Boyer Family moving to Long Beach, California, where he graduated from Long Beach Polytechnic High School.
Robert was drafted into the Marines 8 March 1966 in Los Angeles.
When Robert arrived in Vietnam 14 May 1967, he was assigned to 1st Platoon of Echo Company, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division. Robert was wounded 15 June 1967 with shrapnel to his right hand in the vicinity of Gio Linh and wasn't medevac. During an engagement against with entrenched NVA forces and while rescuing a wounded Marine and taking him to safety, Robert died as a result of a burst of enemy rifle fire when a bullet hit him on the head, at LZ Hawk, Bao An Dong, Go Noi Island, when the battalion was participating in Operation Auburn.
Robert was single and served his country for 1 year, 9 months and 22 days and was KIA #19,464.
He had been in Vietnam for 7 months and 14 days and was 21 years and 14 days old.
Survived by his parents; Everett S and Alice Marie Boyer and his 3 sisters; Scherry and 2 of names unknown all of 4440 Maury, Long Beach, California, and his grandparents; Roy Charles and Carrie Boyer and grandmother; Katherine McClary, his uncles and aunts; Robert Lee and Lula Virginia Boyer, and Earl T and Mary Bernice Boyer.
Cpl Boyer was awarded the Silver Star.

Robert was buried in a grave next to Patrick Emmett Anglim. Robert and Patrick were life-time schoolmates and friends, and both were only sons. They were both residents of Long Beach, California both died in combat on the same date while serving with 1st Platoon of Echo Company.
