Dickin Medal Recipient. Born in Shropshire, he was a working farm dog when his family loaned him to the military for service. He trained at Northaw, reportedly completing the course in record time. He was reported to have completed numerous training jumps from aircraft before being posted to Italy where he made another two jumps into occupied territory. He was largely engaged in patrol and guard duty, and he is the only animal recommended for a Dickin Medal by the War Office who stated, "there is no doubt that his presence...saved many...from being discovered and thereby captured and killed." He received his award on January 22, 1945. After the war, he returned to his family in Shropshire who reported his usefulness as a shepherd dog of any kind was over but that he was an excellent guard dog. When he died at age 12, he was buried in the family garden.
