Mr. Barnette is survived by a son, Samuel D. Barnette Jr. of Madison; a daughter, Sheila Barnette Ellington of Kosciusko; one grandson, Stephen Barnette of Jackson; one daughter-in-law, Sally, and one son-in-law; a sister, Grace Melton of Memphis; a brother, George Fuston Johnson of Olive Branch.
