~ At the cross, at the cross where I first saw the light, And the burden of my heart rolled away, It was there by faith I received my sight, And now I am happy all the day! Galatians 6:14

"The sure provisions of my God Attend me all my days; O may Thy house be my abode, And all my work be praise! There would I find a settled rest, While others go and come; No more a stranger, nor a guest, But like a child at home." Isaac Watts

Were the whole realm of nature mine, / That were a present far too small; / Love so amazing, so divine, / Demands my soul, my life, my all. ~RIP~

"Jesus, how glorious is Thy grace! When in Thy name we Trust, Our faith receives a righteousness That makes the sinner just. ** Vain are the hopes the sons of men Upon their works have built; Their hearts by nature are unclean, Their actions full of guilt.* Silent let Jew and Gentile stand, Without one vaunting word; And humbled low, confess their guilt Before the righteous Lord. * No hope can on the law be built Of justifying grace; The law that shows the sinner's guilt Condemns him to his face. * With Christ the Lord we died to sin; With him to life we rise- To life which, now begun on earth, Is perfect in the skies." to the father of English hymnodyBehold the glories of the LambAmidst His Father's throne.Prepare new honors for His Name,And songs before unknown.Let elders worship at His feet,The Church adore around,With vials full of odors sweet,And harps of sweeter sound. Those are the prayers of the saints,And these the hymns they raise;Jesus is kind to our complaints,He loves to hear our praise.Eternal Father, who shall lookInto Thy secret will?Who but the Son should take that BookAnd open every seal?He shall fulfill Thy great decrees,The Son deserves it well;Lo, in His hand the sovereign keysOf Heav'n, and death, and hell! Now to the Lamb that once was slainBe endless blessings paid;Salvation, glory, joy remainForever on Thy head.Thou hast redeemed our souls with blood,Hast set the prisoner free;Hast made us kings and priests to God,And we shall reign with Thee. The worlds of nature and of graceAre put beneath Thy power; Then shorten these delaying days,And bring the promised hour.first hymn, circa 1688 at age 14. God give rest to your soul, Dr. Watts.

Isaac Watts' Psalms, Hymns and Spiritual Songs (1707) was chosen along with the Bible by President Thomas Jefferson as the principal textbooks to teach reading in the schools of the District of Columbia. Jefferson, third president of the United States, chaired the school board, where he authored the first plan of education adopted by the City of Washington.
