U.S. Congressman. Moving with his parents to Denver, Colorado, in 1881, he graduated from Yale University, in 1898. During the Spanish-American War, he served as a Private in the 1st Regiment of the Connecticut Volunteer Field Artillery. After the war, he studied law at the University of Colorado, plus the Harvard Law School, was admitted to the bar in 1901 and commenced to practice of law in Denver, Colorado. In addition, he served as a 2nd lieutenant in the 1st Separate Battalion, Colorado National Guard, on the Mexican border, in 1916. In 1919, he was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-sixth Congress and to the next four succeeding Congresses, serving until his death.
