Mrs. Clark was shot in the stomach with a shotgun on April 9, 1977, and allegedly told detectives that she had pulled the trigger. Her death was then ruled a suicide. However, her family's claims that Mrs. Clark did not attempt to take her own life convinced the coroner to rule that the mode of death was "undetermined." Capt. Joe Page, a chief deputy coroner, said that existing facts did not support a suicide. Both the district attorney's office and the sheriff's department declined to investigate the matter further.
Mrs. Clark was survived by her husband, Roger Clark; daughter Amy Susanne Barker; parents Doris and Robert Barker; grandmother Florence Caldwell; brother Bob Barker; sisters Susanne Fowler and Shannon Barker; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of Napa.
