Samuel H. Alexander was born 11 Aug 1845 in Spring Hook Beat, Lawrence Co., AL. When the Civil War started, Samuel and his brother left home to join the fight. James joined the militia. Samuel fought for two years in the "brush," seeing many of the enemy but not getting a scratch before returning home to his family. He was married briefly to Mary C. Jenkins who died. Then he married Mary Frances "Fannie" Copenhaver Mosley. They married ca 1876 in Missouri. She died ca 1901. He married third his stepdaughter, Ollie Ann Mosley McKnight. He died 07 Mar 1925.

Most of the family are buried at Creagleville information from a more detailed biography submitted by Barbara Erwin of Edgewood, TX obituary: "S. H. Alexander, who has been a resident of Van Zandt County for 45 years, succumbed to an attack of the flu, the end coming Saturday, March 7 at noon. Mr. Alexander was born in the state of Missouri, coming to Grayson County, Texas, 53 years ago. Eight years later he came to Van Zandt County, but has been living on his home place at Creagleville, for 40 years. Uncle Sam, as was affectionately known, was married three times. The funeral services were conducted by Bro. McKenzie, pastor of the Church of Christ. He brought out the fact that Mr. Alexander was loved and respected by all of those whom he had come in contact with. This fact was well proven by the immense throng who had come out to pay their last respects to the deceased, it being estimated that there were between 1,500 and 2,000 people present The
