Ed Anglemyer is Fatally Stricken, Suffer Seizure in Hospital After two-week Illness
C. EDWIN ANGLEMYER, 50, 504 Carter Road, superintendent of Western Rubber Company, died unexpectedly of a heart attack at 6:10 a.m. Sunday at Goshen General Hospital.
Mr. Anglemyer was admitted to the hospital April 30 after suffering a mild heart attack while at work. He had previously suffered an attack about four years ago.
Mr. Anglemyer died soon after he was awakened by a nurse Sunday morning. He had just commented about how well he felt when he suffered the fatal seizure. Death came instantly.
A native and lifelong resident of Goshen, Mr. Anglemyer was well known here.
He was an outstanding high school and collegiate athlete and later became a well-known athletic official.
Mr. Anglemyer played on the last Goshen High School basketball team to advance into the Sweet 16 in the state tournament and he was a member of the undefeated G.H.S. football team of 1929.
Later he starred in football at Indiana University and was listed on a number of All-American and all-Big-Ten teams.
As an athletic official, Mr. Anglemyer worked both basketball and football and specialized in football in later years before his retirement. He was considered one of the top football officials in the Northern Indiana area.
After his retirement, he became a member of the South Bend Tribune's panel of advisors which selected the outstanding Wast Division football players each fall.
Following his graduation from Indiana University, Mr. Anglemyer took a position with the Western Rubber Company on June 3, 1934. He became associated with the company as a part-time employee in 1927.
A native of Goshen, Mr. Anglemyer was born July 18, 1911.
He married Helen Dewey June 30, 1934. She survives with one son, Bruce, Indianapolis; one granddaughter, and a brother, Hubert, Syracuse.
Mr. Anglemyer was an active member of the First Methodist Church, the Elks Lodge and the Goshen Rotary Club.
Friends are being received at the Yoder-Culp Funeral Home where funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. The Rev. Warren Saunders will officiate and burial will be in Violet Cemetery.
