Alexander was the son of Michael Goss. About 1865 he married Mary Miller and they had nine children: Elizabeth, Alexander, Caroline, Rosa, Andrew, John, Joseph, Charles, and Sophia. At one time Alexander was a farmer. He died of chronic diarrhea at the age of 74.
