Cornelia is the daughter of William Whitcomb and Agnes Jane (Anderson) Whitcomb. She married Charles Apple, Nov. 23, 1871. Her obit is as follows:

"CORNELIA WHITCOMB-APPLE
Cornelia Whitcomb was born in Defiance, Ohio, on November 14, 1853. She was married to Charles Apple in Defiance in 1871 and moved to Tennessee where she lived for four years. Mr. and Mrs. Apple then moved to Ferry and lived there for 42 years until the death of Mr. Apple on December 18, 1922. At that time, Mrs. Apple moved to Shelby and made her home with a daughter, Mrs. Agnes Wade.
Surviving Mrs. Apple are two daughters, Mrs. Katie Swinton of Hesperia, and Mrs. Agnes Wade of Shelby; one son, Charles Apple, of Du Pont, Washington. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Apple was greeted by all who knew her as Grandma Apple, a friend to everyone. She was very loyal to the cause of Christianity inside and outside of the church. Until just recently she was active in every branch of the work in the Wesleyan Methodist Church, in which she had been a member for 45 years.
Mrs. Apple passed away on Saturday, Sept. 14, after an illness of 10 days. Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon in the Wesleyan Methodist Church in Shelby with Rev. H. Decker, Pastor, officiating. Burial was in the Ferry Cemetery at Ferry."
