Shannon James Abshire
Silver Lake – Shannon James Abshire, 4, Silver Lake, was dead on arrival Friday at a Topeka hospital. Shawnee County Deputy Coroner Dr. Kiernan O'Callaghan said the child died of croup.

He was born Dec. 4, 1975, at Topeka, the son of James E. Abshire, III and Patricia Briggs Abshire, and had lived in Silver Lake all his life.

Survivors include his parents; a sister, Michelle Renae Abshire, of the home; a brother, Cody Brett Abshire, of the home; his grandparents, Mrs. James Abshire, Jr., Dallas, and Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Briggs, Burlingame, and great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Briggs, 2005 Lincoln, Mrs. Ora Moore, Burlingame, and Mrs. Emma Johnson, Lancaster, Texas.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Silver Lake United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Topeka. Shannon will lie in state until noon Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Topeka, and until service time at the church.
