Obituary:John Davis Halstead, 84, of the 5500 block of Quill Road, a retired firefighter, died April 2, 1988 in his home.
Mr. Halstead, a native of Norfolk, had retired from the Norfolk Fire Department. He was a member of the first crew of the Norfolk fireboat Vulcan. He was a member of Aragona Church of Christ and the Norfolk Elks Lodge. He was the widower of Ruth D. Halstead.
Survivors include two daughters, June H. Warren and Jean H. Bunting, both of Virginia Beach, and five grandchildren.
The graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Rosewood Memorial Park by the Rev. John Sears. The family will be at the residence. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel is handling arrangements.
UPDATE: The following email from contributor Anonymous (#47129494), they wrote " I am named after my grandfather, was with him when he died, was at his funeral, and knew him well and can assure you his name was never Davis. Pleaase make the correction. If you look at the grave marker photo you will see the name was David. Thank you."
