U.S. Congressman. He attended Highlands University, earned a law degree at Cumberland University Tennessee and was a court reporter for the eighth judicial district of New Mexico, (1925-30). Admitted to the bar in 1931, he practiced law in Santa Fe, New Mexico and was assistant district attorney of the eighth judicial district in 1933. He served in the New Mexico State House of Representatives in 1935, chief tax attorney for the State Tax Commission, (1935-36), first assistant attorney general, (1937-41) and a member of the first New Mexico Public Service Commission, (1941-42). In 1943, he was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-eighth Congress and to the next six succeeding Congresses and served until his death at age 54.
