We give thanks to God for the life and legacy of Charles Adkisson, 91, of Greeley. Charles passed away peacefully April 16, 2012, at North Colorado Medical Center. He was born October 5, 1920, in Milliken to Bob and Susie (Adams) Adkisson and graduated from Milliken High School in 1938. Charles served in the 8th Air Force during World War II and was held prisoner of war in Germany for 8 months.
On June 25, 1949, Charles married Germaine Wolf. He farmed near Milliken for 19 years and in 1969, purchased his own farm north of Eaton. He was a farmer by vocation, a gardener at heart.
Charles and Germaine retired and moved to Greeley in 1988. Among their travels were trips to Washington D.C., San Francisco and Vancouver, BC. Charles enjoyed gardening, woodworking, photography, reading, and was an avid Rockies and Broncos fan. He was an active member of St. John's United Church of Christ for six decades, where he was consistory president and building committee chairman.
Those who celebrate his life include Germaine, his loving wife of 62 years, son Charles L. (Annie), Lakewood; daughters Charlene Parker, Greeley and Carol Gustafson (Greg), Arvada; five treasured grandchildren, Kirsten and Marin Adkisson, and Andrew, Evan and Julia Gustafson, a brother, Wayne, a sister, Beverly Walker, brother-in-laws, Richard (Bernice) Wolf and Bob (Dona) Wolf, sister-in-law, Colleen (Pete) Denzin, numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Natalie, Fern and Phyllis, and an infant grandson, William Gustafson.
Funeral service is Saturday, April 21, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. at St. John's United Church of Christ, 3815 W. 20th St. Greeley. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to St. Johns UCC Memorial Fund in care of Allnutt Funeral Service, 702 13th Street, Greeley, CO 80631.
