Thomas Dale Cozad was the son of George Thomas Cozad (1867-1963) and Sophia Minerva Lockwood Cozad (1869-1953). He was also married to Thelma Owens (m. 17 June 1926) but her burial site is unknown at this time.

Thomas Cozad


Thomas Dale Cozad, 83, 4520 High Drive, died Sunday afternoon at a local hospital.


Mr. Cozad was born in Muscotah, Kan., and was a resident of St. Joseph most of his life.


In 1919 he moved to Kansas City and played a saxaphone there for several years during the heyday of K.C. jazz. After several years in show business he took a job as a salesman for Chase Candy Company in St. Joseph and in his later years was a loan officer for the Commerce Bank until he retired. He was a member of the Wyatt Park Baptist Church.


Surviving are his wife, Edith Cozad, of the home; one son, Thomas Dale Cozad, Jr., Minneapolis, Minn; one sister, Verla Turner, St. Joseph; two stepsons, Raymond Parker and Larry Parker, both of St. Joseph; and one stepdaughter, Ann Reasy, Kansas City, Mo; three grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two nieces; and one nephew.


Services are provided by Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Funeral Home.
