Michael served as a 2nd Lieutenant on B-17F (#42-6032), 223rd Base Unit, Combat Training Squadron, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Erie County, New York prior to the war.

Michael, while serving at the Dyersburg Army Airfield in Tennessee, died in the "Line Of Duty" when his B-17F crashed three miles north of Halls, Tennessee during the war. Eight other crew members also died as a result of this crash. The pilot survived.
