Evan was born at the home of Joseph Ernest and Sarah Elmeda Howard, his grandparents in Huntington, and was the oldest son of Cleon & Eva Howard Huntsman. His siblings were Howard W and Dennis Cleon Huntsman (who was an infant at death). He and Howard were raised in Ferron, Emery Utah, with a couple of short times living in Kennelworth, Carbon County, and Tooele, Tooele County, because of his father's employment with the coal mine and Ordinance Depot work.
In 1945 his father, built a garage, where he was a mechanic for automobiles and farm equipment. (Later he had a dealership for New Holland and Massay Ferguson farm equipment.) This business made their roots in Ferron permanent where they lived in Evan's great grandfather, Hyrum Ralston Huntsman's home, and he gained sales and mechanics skills. He not only worked with his father, but his grandpa Huntsman was often on hand in the garage, as well. His grandparents, George and Deborah were neighbors on the north side of the garage.
He went to the local schools and was active in the Ferron L.D.S. Ward. He participated in FFA and Track and attended seminary.
He attended college in Price (CEU), & Logan (USU), but loved being out of doors so much more than in school. He met Leona Spencer and together they started school in Cedar City (BAC changed to CSU that year).Her father passed away in October and she stayed home with her mother. He attended school that quarter but his heart was with her and they were married on 2 April 1953 in the Manti Temple. He was drafted into the service of the US Army in October 1953 and served during the Korean Conflict at Fort Ord, California. His college education had ended.
Their family started with EvaLynn who was born in California, and they returned to Ferron when he was released in Oct of 1955. Leland was born soon after returning. Some of these jobs included, milking for Crawfords, newspaper delivery, hauling Grade A and Grade B milk for the local dairymen, hauling the bricks for the new elementary school in Orangeville and the new high school in Castle Dale, hauling coal to the church buildings in the county, water master, custom combining and hay hauling, and LDS ward custodian. He finally founded "Huntsman Feed and Supply" where he hauled grain from Fruita, Colorado for the local farmer's livestock.
Eric, (born & died) LeAnne, Elayne, Loraine, and Lisa Beth were all born while living in one of two different homes in Ferron. In 1967, after extending too much credit to the farmers of Emery County, he ended this business and sold his truck and the family moved to Aurora, Sevier, Utah, where Leona had been raised. Here Evan drove truck for Hatchco, repaired school buses, worked on Johnson Livestock farm equipment, was a school activities bus driver, the ward custodian and later the NSHS custodian. Here Leon, Emily Kaye and Lorilee were born.
He was active in the Aurora L.D.S. Ward where he served in ward and stake callings. He passed away with a hardened liver in 1977, after several years of illness. At the time of his passing a son-in-law and three grandchildren had been added to the family.
